Matt’s Fishing Tips For The Easter Break.

Hello all I am very excited to be working with North Coast Boating to bring you monthly fishing tips for the Sunshine Coast Region.

At the moment and in the coming weeks Mackerel will be worth targeting. Further off shore for the Marlin guys we are having hot bites off Cape Morton with one boat tagging and releasing over the last week 11 blue marlin!

Bottom fishing has been reasonable with the best reports coming from the reefs off Noosa, with  Caloundra 12 mile and the northern end of the Banks worth a look. Borumba dam over Easter will be worth looking at for Bass and Saratoga. In the rivers Pumistone Passage has had good reports of Whiting and Flathead and that should carry on into next month. Mooloolah River has been great for Bream, Trevally and the odd Mangrove Jack. Maroochy River is fishing well for Flathead and Mangrove Jack. Noosa has been good for Whiting, Flathead, Mangrove Jack and Trevally.

Not much to report from the beaches due to the weather we have had over the last month or more.

Chasing the mackerel hard bodied lures work well and I’d have a red and white colour in the spread for sure. You can also troll skirted lures but make sure you use a wire trace or it’ll become an expensive exercise with their sharp teeth. Blue marlin I’d be having a lumo and a blue/ silver in the spread as well.

With the reef fish it always pays to have a floater out with either no sinker or a small one drifting down slowly. If you use squid and pilchards for bait, don’t be afraid to put a pilchard in the squid then your hooks into both of them. It’s like an ice cream to big fish.

Tight lines.

And Happy Easter to you all.
